Renowned for his mastery in Indian classical, Khayal Thumri, Ghazals, Film songs, Folk, Fusion, and Sufi music, Naqi Ali Khan is the son of the late Karamat Ali Khan and the grandson of the legendary Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan of the Kasur Gharana.

Naqi Ali Khan's golden voice has graced stages globally, from New York City to Calcutta, earning accolades on platforms like Radio Pakistan, Canadian TV channels, and prestigious international music festivals. As a cultural ambassador, Naqi has founded the Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Music Conference in Lahore, Pakistan.

Naqi Ali Khan's enchanting performances have resonated with audiences worldwide, earning him recognition at the World Performing Arts Music Festival in Lahore. This very special evening will be hosted by Suma Nair and led by renowned vocalist Ramneek Singh along with her gifted son Malhar Singh. Yasir Javed is an accomplished singer who started learning at the age of 7 under the guidance of Ustad Ghazi Ali Khan and continued his musical journey as he grew up. He has given several performances in Pakistan and outside. On the Sur Sangum stage Yasir will sing a mix of traditional ghazals, nazms and geets (film & non film). He has a strong repertoire that audience would love! Yasir will be accompanied by Waris Khan on tabla and Randy Mahadeo on keyboard.

Sur Sangum’s upcoming presentation - ScrapFest - is a multicultural, immigrant friendly indie music series showcasing alternative artists with varied geopolitical backgrounds and a common outsider perspective. The evening will present headlining artist Urvah Khan along with her live band, The Scrap Army, celebrating her origins with the release of her debut Urdu album entitled, Muhajir (the Immigrant songs). The evening also features Toronto-based alt/rock singer-songwriter, Sing Bandana Singh, queer Canadian-Pakistani drag queen, Humza A. Mian aka Manghoe Lassi and the legendary rocker jock, Jeff Woods. Join us as we bring to the ‘burbs, GTA’s wonderful diversity and spotlight the artists that contribute so much to the richness of our communities.

The evening will also feature a highly talented young musician, Mujeeb Rizvi who had his formal training in music from late Asad Amanat Ali Khan of Patiala gharana. Mujeeb recently moved to Canada and making his mark on the music scene. We look forward to welcoming Mujeeb to Sur Sangum. Rakae Jamil is a young Pakistani sitar player, music producer & studio owner and lead member of a contemporary instrumental funk-fusion music super-group "Mughal e Funk". He has learned sitar from Ustad Ashraf Sharif Khan Poonchwalay and Ustad Shujaat Khan among others. Rakae has also performed on Coke Studio. With Bachelor’s in Musicology from NCA and a Master’s in Humanities with a focus on music, Rakae is a musical wizard when it comes to the sitar. He belongs to a family that has produced many artistically accomplished people. Sur Sangam is excited to welcome Rakae for an intimate Meet & Greet featuring sitar conversations and an exclusive recital.

Sur Sangum Foundation in collaboration with Mr. & Mrs. Akbar Majeed presents an engaging session with Senator (r) Javed Jabbar. Join the Book Launch of “What is Pakistaniat?” and rediscovering Pakistan’s only full-length English feature film“Beyond the Last Mountain”. While Senator (r) Javed Jabbar is a name synonymous with media in Pakistan, he is also active in diverse fields. He is an international and national award-winning filmmaker and author who wrote and directed Pakistan's only full-length English film, Beyond The Last Mountain and also wrote and produced “Ramchand Pakistani”. He is a former Federal Minister in 3 Cabinets. On a voluntary basis, he founded and leads major grass-roots development and welfare organisations. He is author of several books and an engaging commentator on regional and global cultural and political issues. 6 copies of English version and 3 copies of Urdu version of “What Is Pakistaniat” signed by the Author will be available @$15 each.

We are very excited to present ‘Gulhaaye Rang a Rang’ , Sur Sangum's presentation as part of the Sampurna Concert Series. The event features performances by two distinguished artists:

a. Ensemble Topaz - A Toronto based 7-member Ensemble specializes in the dances and music of Central Asia and South Asia, and also bringing these traditional music forms into dialogue with western instruments.

b. Qais Essar - An award-winning, internationally acclaimed Afghan-American Rabab player who has performed on many stages worldwide and composed background music for films.

We are excited to welcome Mike Anklewicz and Paromita Kar of Ensemble Topaz for a Meet & Greet. Paromita is a Toronto-based dance artist, as well as an independent dance researcher/scholar. Mike Anklewicz is a versatile musician who performs, composes, arranges, and teaches in many different areas of music, ranging from classical to jazz to klezmer to the avant-garde. The artists co-lead Ensemble Topaz, a combined music and dance company which explores art forms of "the Orient," bringing them into dialogue on stage. Mike and Paromita will share their musical journey and dancing experiences as well as upcoming performance for Sur Sagum.
